Sayabouri etc. (1971)

There were Blue and White Hmong in Sayabouri, which is situated in the northwest of Laos. I met an Iranian Ba’hai missionary there, and he invited me to stay with him. He told me he had been living in Sayabouri for some years but had not made many converts among the Hmong. The Christian missionaries were much more efficient. They used tricks like cross-shaped aspirins to cure illness. He was a great cook, and we ate very well. He would come out of his kitchen with a steaming pot, and proclaim: “Food is energy!”
One of the pictures was taken in Phou Khao Kwai, to the east of Ban Keun.
