Paksane road village 2

This was a permanent village on the banks of a Mekong River tributary. There was a shady wat that enshrined one of the Buddha’s ubiquitous footprints, and an impressive but headless Buddha. The sun hit the eyes of the decapitated head and highlighted the carving of Rahu, the moon-eating demon, on the pedestal.

On the river, they were practising for the boat races that would be part of the next festival.
